Program Background

The Sustainable Neighborhoods Program provides support to neighborhoods in order to advance neighborhood-level climate action and empower residents to create sustainable and resilient communities.

Kids recyclingThe Sustainable Neighborhoods Program was created by the City of Lakewood, Colorado in 2012. Following major program successes, Lakewood began to receive inquiries from other municipalities interested in adopting the program. The City and County of Denver began implementing the program in 2013, and since that time, Wheat Ridge and Fort Collins have successfully launched the program.

Since 2012, thousands of residents across Colorado's Front Range have dedicated their time and shared their expertise to make their neighborhoods more sustainable, connected and resilient.

The work these residents do in their neighborhoods earn them credits, which are an integral part of the program's annual certification process. You can read more about how the program works and learn more about the certification process.
