Bring Sustainability to Hundreds of Neighborhoods How sustainable is your neighborhood? We live in a world in which the impacts of a changing climate and other environmental crises are becoming ever more evident in daily life. At the same time, we’re losing the strong connections to our neighborhoods and to each other. Taking action, especially as a collective group, builds lasting connections among neighbors, helps us overcome our climate distress, and makes meaningful change from the roots up. Is there a way out of the current crisis? A resounding yes! A group of pioneering leaders created the Sustainable Neighborhood Network (SNN), a nonpartisan nonprofit with a proven program to harness the collective power of neighbors and cities to tackle the crisis. By providing tools and resources, SNN is empowering neighborhoods to define their specific sustainability priorities and take direct climate action, while aligning with their city’s climate plans and targets. This model has been proven with 5 cities, engaging over 90,000 residents in 1,900 neighborhood-led projects, from neighborhood community gardens to blocks of solar installations. That is just with 5 cities. Imagine what we could do with 500 or 5,000 cities actively creating sustainable change at the local level. The time is now to scale up the Sustainable Neighborhood Network. Climate experts agree: we must take action now to avoid the worst impacts. Our $400,000 goal will enable us to bring this phenomenal program to many more neighborhoods as quickly as possible by building out our engagement platform and increasing our staff capacity.
